Sean K. 11/19/08 English Great Depression Picture The picture I have chosen is below. This is a picture of a family who is living in their car. They have all of there belongings in a trailer, and on top of their car. There is also a mother and a baby lying on a blanket on the ground. I would say that this picture best represents the Great Depression because it shows what families have lost, and how they have to leave their homes, and some of their belongings behind. This also shows that the people are leaving the Midwest because of an event called the Dust Bowl. The Dust Bowl took place in the areas around Texas and Oklahoma. Many families from that area left their farms to move out west. This picture shows two effects of the Great Depression and the Dust Bowl. This time period had a huge effect on the people who lived through it.

This picture of a group of small children waiting in line for free soup at a kitchen was taken during America’s great depression. This picture shows how hard this time was on not only the parents who lost their jobs, but their families as well. These children’s parents most likely lost their jobs because of the depression and had no money or way to provide food for their child so they had to resort to the food the soup kitchen was giving out. The line was long and there may not have been enough food to go around. But it was many parents only way to feed their hungry children because with no job you have no money for lives necessities.

This is a picture of a family that lived in a shack during the Great Depression. This was how poor they were. Many of them were jobless, unemployed, couldn’t pay their mortgage, or had to move and sell their farmland. Some could barely afford enough food. The prices went up in almost everything and many people couldn’t afford it and ended up living life as you see in this picture. I chose to use this picture to describe the Great Depression because this gives you a very deep and clear impression on really how these people lived and how far this Great Depression went and how serious it was. I also chose this picture because it shows an average family with around 3 kids and one mother, almost like a normal family. This picture shows how the Great Depression affected poor AND average families, not just poor families. It also showed how bad living conditions were. This picture displays an average family trying to just get by during the Great Depression and is showing how bad the living conditions were.

This photograph best represents this time period because it is expressing a very depressed mood. The town is being enveloped by an enormous sandstorm. Sandstorms were a common happening during a time during the Great Depression known as the Dust Bowl. It would be hard for anyone to survive one of these natural phenomena and tell the tale. They destoyed crops, houses, and many peoples lives. After a storm, people could be left with no food, no shelter, and missing family members. These storms were extremely common in most of the midwest and especially Texas and Oklahoma. These people were in a depression and did not have much to begin with, but what they had was destroyed by monsters during the Dust Bowl.
